Thu, May 07, 2026 | 6 p.m. | Keynote speech: Democracy needs the rule of law and people who defend it<\/strong><\/p>\n\n What can you expect?<\/p>\n\n The rule of law is the foundation of our democracy. However, trust in state institutions is no longer a matter of course – it must be strengthened again and again. <\/p>\n\n Especially in times of growing social polarization and increasing scepticism towards state institutions – visible, for example, in the growing popularity of populist and extremist political forces in Germany – the teaching of the rule of law in all its forms is gaining new importance.<\/p>\n\n The Ministry of Justice of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia has therefore launched an initiative with partners such as the Mercator Foundation to make the rule of law and the role of the judiciary understandable and accessible – for example through social dialog formats and projects with schools.<\/p>\n\n In the Ladies’ Salon, we talk to Sandra Kim about the YM initiative, how trust in the rule of law is created and why communicating it is more important today than ever.<\/p>\n\n An evening about responsibility, social cohesion and the future of our democratic institutions.<\/p>\n\n Sandra Kim is Head of the Department for Diversity Promotion, Anti-Discrimination and Rule of Law Education as well as Legal Studies in the Education and Training Department at the Ministry of Justice of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
