What can you expect?
The major social media platforms shape our public communication. But the Fediverse is giving rise to an alternative model: decentralized, open, and independent of individual tech companies. What lies behind this concept, and what opportunities does it offer for a sovereign digital public sphere?
Together with Peter Diekmann, Team Leader of Digital Communication & Corporate Design at the Robert Bosch Stiftung, we take a look at the future of digital networks. We discuss the role AI plays in moderating platforms, whether the Fediverse represents a genuine and European alternative to the established Big Tech platforms, and whether decentralization actually leads to greater diversity or gives rise to new forms of concentration. We’ll also gain insights into the Robert Bosch Foundation’s experiences and discuss how digital spaces can be designed to promote democratic participation, transparency, and digital sovereignty.
