Background
The German SME sector is regarded as the backbone of our society; around 15,000 of these companies have a turnover of over EUR 10 million and are owner-managed. A large proportion are involved in mergers and acquisitions (M&A). Growth strategies and the optimization of their own business model are occupying the owners. In addition, there are the challenges posed by digitalization and a shortage of skilled workers, as well as the effects of various crises that have been impacting the supply chain, energy costs and much more for two years now.
SMEs are being asked to reposition themselves and explore future potential. M&A is an effective means of coping with these diverse changes – and the topic presents SMEs with many other challenges.
