“Fit for Trade” webinar of the AHV NRW

Dr. Jan Hermeling, lawyer and salary partner at TIGGES, has been advising companies on complex transport and logistics-related issues for many years. He was recently invited as a speaker at the “Fit for Trade” webinar organized by AHV NRW and spoke to around 60 participants about current challenges and practical issues relating to national and international transport law.

The webinar focused on typical problems from everyday business life, from liability issues in the event of damaged goods to the distribution of roles in the transportation process and the interaction between the purchase contract, freight contract and forwarding contract. The main aim was to present complex legal issues in an understandable and practical way.

A special focus was placed on the liability mechanisms in transportation law. Among other things, the prerequisites for the carrier’s liability, statutory limitations of liability and constellations in which these can be breached were discussed. In addition, classic areas of conflict such as loading and unloading, obstacles to delivery or delays in delivery were explained using practical examples.

The professional handling of claims also played a central role. Dr. Jan Hermeling showed how crucial a structured approach, from the notification of damage and liability to the preservation of evidence and compliance with relevant deadlines, can be for the economic success of a company.

The webinar was rounded off with a look at current challenges in transport law in connection with geopolitical and global economic challenges and a discussion of some exciting questions from the participants.

We would like to thank the AHV NRW, especially Andreas Mühlberg, for the excellent organization and moderation of the event.
