Dr. Jan Hermeling, a specialist in international commercial law, is a Salary Partner at TIGGES. He advises and represents his clients out of court and before national and international courts. One focus of his advice is on transport law issues relating to multimodal and rail freight transport. His consulting practice also includes customs law advice and representation before customs authorities.

Furthermore, Dr. Hermeling is active in insolvency law and focuses here on advising national and international creditors before and in the insolvency of business partners and customers.

Dr. Jan Hermeling is a trained mediator and supports his clients in the area of out-of-court conflict resolution. A particular focus is on mediative advice to companies and entrepreneurs in conflict and decision-making situations.

After training as a banker, Dr. Hermeling studied law in Bonn and Cologne with a focus on tax and business law. He subsequently gained practical experience by working for an international law firm and the auditing and tax consulting firm KPMG.

Dr. Hermeling completed his legal traineeship at the Düsseldorf Regional Court with stations at the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority in the area of international banking supervision in Bonn and in the area of corporate law and M&A of a large international commercial law firm in Düsseldorf and New York. In May 2015 he finished his PhD at the University of Cologne in the area of banking supervision and insolvency law.

Since March 2019 Dr. Hermeling has been a certified specialist for international business law.

Dr Hermeling is a member of the Executive Committee of the Working Group for International Commercial Law of the German Bar Association (DAV) and Vice-President of the Transport Law Commission of the International Association of Young Lawyers (AIJA). He is also a member of the German-Spanish Lawyers‘ Association, the DAV Working Group for Insolvency Law and Reorganisation and the German Association for Transport Law (DGTR).

Dr Hermeling also works as an author for the Beck publishing house and as a lecturer at the Hagen Law School for the specialist lawyer course in transport and forwarding law, where he is responsible for the areas of “The freight and forwarding law mandate” and “Customs law and customs clearance”.
