Since 2020, Patrick J. Kaatz, LL.M., has been working as a lawyer at TIGGES. He advises clients in all areas of intellectual property, unfair competition law, and antitrust law. His field of activity includes both non-contentious advisory services and representation in litigation and preliminary injunction proceedings.
In addition, he serves as a compliance advisor at TIGGES DCO.
Patrick J. Kaatz combines solid practical experience with strong academic expertise. His professional career began with a successful vocational training as an office management assistant at a craft business in Berlin, where he gained valuable insights into entrepreneurial and commercial processes.
During his law studies at the University of Greifswald, he focused early on intellectual property and antitrust law – two areas that have shaped his career ever since. Alongside his studies, he was actively involved in political organizations, regularly taking on leadership roles. These experiences sharpened his strategic and organizational skills and often required him to mediate between differing interests and resolve conflicts within associations.
During his legal traineeship at the Regional Court of Wuppertal, he deepened his specialization with placements at the German Federal Cartel Office and a renowned boutique law firm for intellectual property. He also gained international experience at a law firm in Dublin.
After passing the second state examination in 2016, he started working as a legal counsel at an international commercial law firm in Düsseldorf, specializing in antitrust and unfair competition law. He then joined an international firm in Cologne to further expand his expertise in intellectual property, unfair competition, and product safety law.
Since 2020, Patrick J. Kaatz has been working as a lawyer at TIGGES Rechtsanwälte, where he combines his two main areas of focus – intellectual property and antitrust law. He advises small and medium-sized enterprises as well as start-ups on all aspects of intellectual property rights, competition law, and antitrust compliance.
In 2025, Patrick J. Kaatz earned a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Intellectual Property Law from Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf while working. He also completed the theoretical part of the specialist lawyer training in Intellectual Property Law.
Patrick J. Kaatz is a member of the German Association for Intellectual Property and Copyright Law (GRUR). He is also a member of the German Association of Antitrust Lawyers (Studienvereinigung Kartellrecht), the Young Entrepreneurs of Düsseldorf (Wirtschaftsjunioren Düsseldorf e.V.), and the VSA e.V. (Association of Former Scholarship Holders of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom).
